Recap: The Sens scored the 1st 3 goals of the game. Zack Smith netted 2 and Milan Michalek recorded the other. The Canadiens, behind the strong relief goaltending of Nathan Lawson, came back behind 2 goals on 9 shots from Max Pacioretty and a late goal from Scott Gomez to tie it (after the game was blacked out on TV). Nothing happened in OT, and to begin the SO, Filatov was stopped. Pacioretty scored, then Spezza scored. Then Alfredsson was stopped and Gallagher was stopped. Then Erik Cole won it for the Habs.
Plus: Pacioretty had a great game, recording an excellent 9 shots and 2 goals, and a goal in the shootout. Nathan Lawson also filled in very well for Carey Price and looks to be a strong contender for the no. 1 job in Hamilton.
Minus: see below.
Nightly Nugget:Scott Gomez’s tying goal, which came with 37 seconds left in the game, occurred shortly after the game was blacked out on TV. Like Dave Stubbs said, story of Gomez’s Montreal career. Here’s hoping this unconfirmed goal is the start of great things this year. At this point, I’ll take anything above ludicrously bad.
