Ovechkin to take leave of absence after death of family member

The Capitals announced earlier today that their captain would be returning to Moscow after the death of his uncle.

Ovechkin simply tweeted earlier today, “U simply never know when and how.”

Ovechkin has already experienced loss in his family, losing his brother Sergei (who introduced him to hockey) in a car crash when Alex was only 10 (nugget: that’s why he does the kiss thing after every goal).

Obviously, condolences to Ovie and his family as it sounds like this was something that took them by surprise.

The Caps said that he will probably be back in time for the Caps’ opener on Saturday when they host the Canes. Watch out, Cam Ward-there’s going to be a very passionate barrage of pucks flying off Ovie’s stick that night.
